Jemar , Company Founded in 1975 by Jesús Arroyo San Pedro and later continued by Begoña San Pedro, our family business is today led by José Fernando Arroyo San Pedro. We are based in Bilbao, Spain, and from the very beginning we have specialised in the manufacture of leather cigar
cases.
Our work is rooted in an ancient manual technique in which leather is shaped exclusively by the strength and skill of the hands, using wooden moulds also known as hormas. For this reason, the artisans who practise this craft are traditionally known as hormadores. It is a demanding yet
deeply artistic process, through which a simple piece of leather is transformed into a genuine work of art: the elegant leather cigar case.
Historically known as petacas, these pieces were originally used to carry loose tobacco. Over time, their purpose evolved, giving rise to what we now call the purera: a precision-crafted, fully airtight case designed for the transport and preservation of cigars and cigarillos. Throughout this evolution, we have remained faithful to traditional, natural artisanal methods, thereby preserving a heritage that has long brought renown to leather craftsmanship .
Thanks to the dedication and expertise of our artisans—who continue to employ the same techniques as their forebears we can confidently attest to the outstanding quality of our products.
For us, the handcrafted leather cigar case holds significant social value. It is considered an accessory of distinction, an item “to be worn,” lending its owner a subtle yet unmistakable mark of elegance.
The leathers used in the creation of our products are full grain, vegetable-tanned hides, entirely free from harmful chemical additives such as chromium, which can cause allergies, irritation, or skin conditions. Vegetable-tanned leather is hypoallergenic and breathable, enhancing user comfort and hygiene an especially important consideration in an era where sustainability plays a vital role in every stage of the manufacturing process.
This tanning method, which avoids surface coatings, preserves the leather’s original properties, allowing it to develop greater beauty and character over time through daily use. Each hide employed in our craftsmanship is unique, and consequently, every article we create is one of a kind. The customer can therefore be assured that when purchasing a Cigar leather Cases or any product made
from vegetable-tanned full-grain leather, they are acquiring a truly artisanal item of exceptional quality.

The first step in making the cigar case begins in the cutting section, where a press, also called a die-cutting machine, cuts the different parts that make up the cigar case.

The next step, once the pieces are cut, is to pass them through the leather splitting and skiving machine. These machines are used to give the leather the appropriate thickness and thus achieve a smoothness in the edges of the leather that will make the result suitable.

Once the different parts of the leather have been thinned, they are taken to the pasting or assembly section, which is based on giving them the so-called "water glue" where qualified personnel join the different parts of the cigar case, leaving the product ready to go to the shaping section.

This is the most important process in the production of our products, where our expert artisans, who still use the same methods and techniques as their ancestors, shape the leather by hand.
First, the artisan soaks the previously assembled hide in water. This softens the leather so it can be worked, as the entire process is done by hand, requiring the hide to be sufficiently soft. This is why it is also essential to use 100% vegetable-tanned leather, as it is the only type of leather that allows you to shape it without it losing its shape.

Once the leather is sufficiently soft, the artisan places the cigar case in a custom-made mold and begins shaping it with various tools, all crafted from ash wood. It is a complex and slow process, but it is the only way to achieve a truly handcrafted, high-quality product.

Once the product has been shaped, the cigar cases are hung in the so-called "drying sheds" so that the leather can expel all the moisture, before the finishing and polishing process.

Finally, to complete the making of the cigar case, they go to the edge painting section where the craftsman paints and polishes them, giving them a perfect finish.

The final step is called "quality control." Here, qualified personnel inspect the item to ensure it is in perfect condition for packaging, guaranteeing complete customer satisfaction. Our company meticulously attends to every detail, always maintaining the highest quality in all our products.
